Australian Release DVD error and Fix
This is a post for any Australian warhammer online buyers who have realised there CD/DVD install is faulty.
Okay, so let's say that you've got your retail box, your two Warhammer Online install DVDs (the second one's cunningly hidden in the sleeve marked "PC CD-ROM" in case you're wondering), and your install process goes as planned. No stoppages or fatal errors. Hoorah! You then try to run the game (noting the strange non-graphic icon on your desktop and whoa! a dos box flashes up momentarily then nada, nothing, zip. Further investigation reveals the only executable in your new WAR folder is one called warpatch.exe. You my friend, have been the victim of dodgy launch activity. It's not you, it's them. But fret not, as we may have dug up a solution on the internet. Collect a working warpatch.exe from here. Replace your current warpatch.exe (in the "Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning") folder with this one and run it. Fingers crossed - you'll be in business. How do we know this - because our review code (retail boxed copy) has juuust done exactly the above. It's currently "patching" as we speak - will update if the installation falls over. Bear this in mind if you're running the retail version, no word on if digital download versions will suffer the same "feature" (doubtful). Got to love that DVD quality control! Maybe we can shoot EA a bill for tech support. UPDATE: The above method worked for me - if you're having issues give it a lash until EA issues an official patched patcher executable UPDATE #2: Install choking on files midway through ('Error copying file x')? Ensure you use the one optical drive for your install i.e don't insert both DVDs in diff drives. Thanks mrsatan UPDATE #3: Game crashing after clicking "Play"? Ok i have a problem.... i downloaded the warpatch u linked me but when i deleted the old one and dropped the new one in the folder and click to run it comes up with 'Initialization Faild' twice then a error box with 'UNKSTR' which is then followed by 'Patch Client has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' send error option at the bottom.... did i do something wrong?

So what happens if your install didn't even put an exe on your desktop to run the game with NOR did it put one in the install folder. I'm missing an exe altogether and when I click warpatch.exe it just bring up a DOS window then closes it.
Will this solution work for me?

Can confirm this works, Remember to delete warpatch.exe in your WAR folder and copy the downloaded one into that same folder

ok last time i tried doing this i thought i did it right but then the downloaded patch didnt work either so i am reinstalling AGAIN! to give it another shot |

This is pathetic to have to do this.
I just rang the support line to find out this was a common issue for everyone. I just hope the Australian community isn't always getting bad things like this happening. This isn't World of Warcraft They'll be making a lot of money from all the people ringing their support line, it's something like $3 a minute. edit: The exe fixed it for me by the way. Thank you! |

Sorry about that short lived joy... the patcher is up now but fails due to a patch error where it says the program was unable to complete and that i should try again later....... also the picture for the patch downloader has bugged out any ideas what to do?

Yup this works, thanks a tonne mate. Remember everyone to replace your old warpatch.exe with the download! Don't just run it from your desktop.

ok i restarted my computer and what do you know the patcher seems to be working again has not started to download yet still on 0% but i take that as my net is capped and alot of ppl will be doing the same so ill let it have some time

Damn it, i just completed the update finally and clicked play and it came up with an error saying some DLL doesn't exist or isn't working.. i can't remember cause i closed it -_-
This is pathetic! I'm going out tonight so i won't even get to play the game now. This is not a good start for my Warhammer Online experience. edit: Ok here is the error message. "War.exe Unable To Locate Component This application has failed to start because d3dx9_34.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." edit: ok after a bit of googling i just realised that is a problem with directx 9, so if anyone else gets the error then you can try restarting your computer, it might be a one off thing.
